Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) Terminal 3 Modernization
Project Details
Consisting of 1.9M SF of tenant improvements and new construction, the LEED® Silver Terminal 3 Modernization is a top-to-bottom renovation of the entire facility, which was originally designed by DWL in the late 1970s. The design takes the existing main terminal building and strips it down to its structural bones. The new curtain wall envelope now allows abundant sunlight to fill the interior spaces. Underutilized mezzanines were removed, large openings were cut into the floor plates and skylights were added to form a three-story atrium space known as the ‘Great Hall.’ The Great Hall provides a post-security, centralized passenger amenities area with shops and restaurants. The project also includes a new 15-gate linear south concourse and a fully renovated 10-gate north concourse, offering passengers a superior travel experience.
This was the Airport’s most ambitious renovation project, with construction phased over five years. Throughout the project, the building remained fully operational to the public and airline flights continued as scheduled.
