Bullard Wash Trailhead Addition
Project Details
As part of the expansion of the Bullard Wash Trail System, a new trailhead building is being designed as the focal point. The design is inspired by the surrounding landscape, with the roof form evoking the majestic Estrella Mountains to the south. Weathered steel was selected as the primary structural material for its natural aging process, reflecting the way materials evolve in nature. Textures inspired by nearby riparian vegetation were incorporated into the cast-in-place concrete walls, while heavily ground and polished concrete floors reveal river rock aggregate reminiscent of the stones found along the wash banks. The structure includes an outdoor classroom and a restroom building consisting of three ADA-accessible single-user restrooms, a wash station, storage and a janitor’s room.
