DWL Promotes Two New Associates

Help us congratulate our newly promoted Associates Shawn Filip and Michael Hauer!

As a registered architect and LEED Accredited Professional with over 13 years of experience with aviation projects, Shawn’s in-depth understanding of the intricacies of an airport allows him to translate needs and requirements into a functional space. He works closely with each team member to solve technical challenges and transform a project’s design into an effective solution. As an expert in aviation planning, Shawn has played an integral role on many of the aviation projects throughout our office, including the recent $430M Terminal 3 Modernization at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Starting his architectural career in 2007, Michael’s keen ability for creativity and problem solving has been an important element in the success of his projects. Michael excels at leading teams through technically-challenging projects and ‘untangling’ them so that the resulting design is clean, simple, attractive and highly functional. He understands a project’s requirements, from pre-design through construction administration, and is able to define a clear strategy to execute those tasks. With an emphasis on efficiency and the desire to utilize design tools to their fullest potential, Michael manages design and document production through a comprehensive Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach.

2016 Phoenix Canstruction Recap

DWL Architects + Planners, Schaefer Engineering and International Tension Structures teamed up to support local hunger for this year’s Phoenix Canstruction Event. The overarching theme for our team’s structure was, “Ending Hunger: It Shouldn’t Be Rocket Science.”

The lofty vision of space travel appears often in our advertising, in our news, and even in our cartoons. While it’s admirable to aim for the stars, there is a greater goal that everyone on Earth can help achieve: Ending Hunger. Our 10-foot rocket is fueled and ready to reach new heights, contributing more than 2,500 cans of food that will go to St. Mary’s Food Bank. We selected our cans not only for their colors, but also for their healthful benefits: energizing vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates. We even threw in some cans of fiery peppers to provide that extra kick all rockets require. But this is not science fiction… The tools and technology exist today to put an end to hunger – one can at a time.

Congratulations to our 2016 Canstruction Team for taking home the award for, “Best Use of Labels” for our Ending Hunger: It Shouldn’t Be Rocket Science structure.

Voting has ended but check out the other structures on the Phoenix Canstruction Facebook Page.

The rocket wouldn’t have been able to launch if it wasn’t for our generous sponsors who played a big part in helping our team launch this rocket!
