Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport – Terminal 4 Checkpoints A, B & C Expansion
In response to security upgrades after 9/11, DWL was selected to re-design all seven checkpoints throughout Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Each of the checkpoint additions required strategic phasing strategies to accomplish the expansion, while allowing the existing checkpoints to remain in operation to process passengers without interruption. DWL worked closely with all parties and created phased portions of the project, which were isolated and constructed. Once the new construction was completed, there was an overnight changeover to the new screening lanes, allowing for seamless customer service.
Checkpoint A was the first and most critical upgrade to passenger operations, and therefore had an extremely tight design and construction schedule. DWL worked closely with the Airport, TSA and the contractor to complete the 12,000 square foot design using only standard steel shapes.
Checkpoint B added 19,550 square feet of floor space to an existing passenger bridge, increasing the area from four to six lanes.
This 20,000 square foot addition and 8,000 square foot remodel of was a complete upgrade of the existing facility with the latest TSA equipment and procedures.
