VALLEYWISE WEST MARYVALE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
INSPIRED DESIGN:
DWL was inspired by the Valleywise team’s commitment to patient care and wanted to enhance the patient care experience from the moment they enter the site. Many of the patients use public transit or ride-share programs to access the health center for their appointments or other community services provided. Entry canopies were designed to bring more shaded pedestrian friendly spaces to the exterior. These canopies act as a transition space for patients arriving for their appointments. Many patients feel anxiety or stress around receiving medical care and the transition space serves as a meditative natural courtyard to relieve stress and anxiety.
THOUGHTFUL STEWARDSHIP:
In an effort to reduce costs while maintaining energy efficiency and durability, DWL designed an alternate to the original CMU design that incorporated Valleywise branding while maintaining the vertical design features of the original design. Taking inspiration from nature, the green color with vertical bands resembles the ribs of the saguaro.
CREATIVE TEAMWORK:
As a committed partner to Valleywise, we worked with the contractor to understand the escalating costs of construction and identify areas of potential savings to the project to meet the budget requirements. With a focus on patient-centered care, we were able to design the site-adapted clinics to keep all the features that support patients and save costs in materials and creative construction details.
ENDURING COMMITMENT:
Working with the Integrated Project Management Office, we were able to understand the critical site needs and successfully implement a site adapt on the smallest site the with multiple challenging constraints. We have enjoyed our partnership with the entire Valleywise team on several projects throughout Maricopa County for nearly a decade. We are honored to be their trusted advisors.
