MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK ROUNDHOUSE, TURNTABLE + RAILYARD
INSPIRED DESIGN:
The Roundhouse, Turntable + Railyard project is a vibrant and imaginative new addition to one of Scottsdale’s most iconic public parks. Designed to expand opportunities for play and community engagement, the project introduces a dynamic blend of architecture, recreation, and public art. At the heart of the development is the 9,450 SF Roundhouse, which features a custom-designed, three-level indoor play structure inspired by the historic Arizona Railroad Engine #6. This immersive experience invites children and families to explore, climb, and interact within a space that celebrates the park’s railroad heritage. The Roundhouse also includes a 900 SF meeting space, offering flexible use for community gatherings and events.
THOUGHTFUL STEWARDSHIP:
The City of Scottsdale envisioned a project that would maximize the potential of McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park by transforming underutilized land into a vibrant, multi-season destination. The Roundhouse, Turntable + Railyard project delivers on this vision by reimagining a previously disconnected portion of the site and integrating it into the park’s core experience. The project reinforces the park’s architectural identity through the use of brick masonry walls, standing seam-sloped roofs, and exposed structural steel, ensuring visual harmony and long-term durability.
CREATIVE TEAMWORK:
The Roundhouse offers a climate-controlled indoor play space for year-round use, anchored by a custom interactive structure. The Railyard splash pad provides outdoor recreation, while the Turntable plaza introduces flexible gathering space and public art, further enriching the park’s cultural and social offerings. Together, these elements unlock the full potential of the site—removing barriers, enhancing connectivity, and delivering recreational value across all seasons.
