CHICAGO CUBS SPRING TRAINING FACILITY, SLOAN PARK

The Chicago Cubs Spring Training Facility is a 146-acre project consisting of a 15,000-seat stadium, six full practice fields, 12 covered batting tunnels, and a two-story, 72,000 SF clubhouse. The clubhouse offers the largest, most advanced training and conditioning facility in the Cactus League. Players have year-round access to the  state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pools, sports therapy medical center, and strength training equipment. The clubhouse also has separate locker rooms for the major and minor league players, a 120-seat theater for team meetings and a full-service cafeteria.

INSPIRED DESIGN:

The stadium design has the old-fashioned feel of the Cubs’ home in Wrigley Field, blended with a distinct desert character. More than 60 percent of the seats are shaded from the sun. The outfield berm was designed to replicate the seating configuration in Wrigley and brings fans close to the action. DWL takes pride in making public places that are memorable to visit. The new CUBS spring training stadium has continually sold-out all of their home games. The adjacent park has a three-story netted climbing tree that everyone from Mesa recognizes.

THOUGHTFUL STEWARDSHIP:

The stadium and fields are part of a larger project that included adjacent soccer fields, a hotel, a lake, a huge park. This project is a great revenue bringing asset to the City of Mesa. The entire facility has become a true community asset enjoyed by residents and visitors from around the world.

CREATIVE TEAMWORK:

DWL teamed with Populous who is known as a world-renowned baseball design architect. This project is one of several sports facilities throughout Arizona that DWL has had the privilege of collaborating with them on.

ENDURING COMMITMENT:

DWL has been committed to the City of Mesa for many years, including the award-winning Mesa Arts Center and Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport.
