City of Glendale Park + Ride - Glendale, Arizona
DWL worked with Jacobs Engineering to design Glendale’s first Park & Ride that operates as both a bus rapid transit facility and as a local transit stop. Various sustainable design principles and materials help this facility mark a new era in alternative transportation for the City and the Valley. It is the first environmentally-friendly facility of its kind. Pervious concrete used for the parking surface promotes drainage and reduces the urban heat island effect. This project has the largest use of pervious concrete in the Western United States.

The project boasts unique shade canopies for commuter comfort, passenger walkways, bus
shelters, monument signage, and a central bus platform with a Security Building. The form of each component is based on a design that uses material efficiently and effectively, as well as its resilience and ability to mitigate heat. The shade canopies are made of materials with a high solar reflectance and are sloped offset to allow for improved air circulation, which helps prevent heat from becoming trapped. Select shade canopy panels are translucent, giving them the appearance of glowing both
day and night.
