City of Scottsdale, North Scottsdale Park & Ride

The North Scottsdale Park and Ride is located on a 5.8 acre reclaimed site located south of Scottsdale Airport, near the end of an active runway. The project transformed a vacant lot, once considered an eyesore, into a site that has beautiful form and functionality for transit passengers and provides a park-like destination for visitors from nearby businesses and residences. The aviation-themed design complements the mobility and mixed-use development goals of the Greater Airpark Community Area Plan by incorporating community gathering spaces and distinct landmark architecture.

DWL designed this project to achieve net-zero energy use – more than 100% of the site’s energy needs are created from the sun through photovoltaic panels mounted on parking shade structures. Other sustainable features include energy-efficient and long-lasting LED site lighting, use of durable recycled/recyclable materials, and the installation of pervious concrete to reduce the heat island effect. The pervious concrete also allows for the natural on-site filtering of rainwater.

As a multi-modal public transit facility, the Park and Ride provides commuters, cyclists and pedestrians access to bus service and vanpools. Passenger amenities include shaded parking and waiting areas, bicycle racks, chilled water fountain and a space for vending machines. A 700 square foot multi-use building consists of an office area, restroom, and spaces for storage.
