Hospice Care
DWL designed a prototypical hospice care facility for Dignita Hospice Care, which later built three inpatient homes in Mesa, Peoria and Tucson, Arizona. The 5,4000 s.f. building was designed to be adaptable and flexible to multiple sites. Each of the facilities includes four semi-private rooms, three private rooms and one swing room—a suite designed for families staying the night or, if necessary, it can be used for additional patients.

This hospice care facility is unique, in that it is the first residential-type, home-like setting built from the ground up with patients and their families in mind. The home contains an eat-in kitchen, a chapel/library, and a large dining room for families. The 11-bed facility is a place for terminally ill patients to receive a few days of extra care before going back home for regular hospice care.

In separate projects, DWL designed a hospice care facility for Solari Hospice Care in Las Vegas, Nevada, and another for Odyssey Healthcare in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Both projects feature private/semi-private rooms in a home-like setting. All of the rooms are easily viewed from the central nursing station, which sits in a common room naturally lit with clerestory lights. The building in Colorado Springs is oriented to capture sweeping views of Pike’s Peak.
