Paying tribute to the project site's past, a rodeo arena, the design of the fire station evokes the simplicity and beauty found in vernacular Arizona ranch buildings. Features such as deeply overhung windows and a large shaded patio were brought into the design to create a shelter from the harsh desert environment.
The design team also incorporated numerous green building features such as indigenous landscaping, dual flush toilets, day lighting, and operable windows. Non-PVC window shading products and sports flooring with 90% post consumer tire waste.
