DWL, in association with Stantec, developed an airport expansion plan with Mohave Airport Authority. The plan includes a 2-story main terminal building facilitating large commercial aircraft at 4 gates. Phase 1 of the building portion of the expansion Plan is the completion of the Holdroom Building. The steel and integrally colored CMU structure has been oversized to accommodate a second floor when funding becomes available. The entire building material palette and color selection is based upon the natural desert of Bullhead City.

The Holdroom rests into the site with the development of shaded outdoor seating areas, planting areas along the pedestrian walkways, and a retaining wall that is designed to accept future artwork. The bus turn-around will be used for pick up and transportation to the many Casino’s located across the river in Laughlin.

The main seating area faces West for the best views of the arriving and departing planes. This great challenge for sun protection affords the fantastic resolution of the Vertical Fin Sunshades across the West Elevation. These shades not only create a dabbled shadow pattern, but also create an identifying element and icon for the Airport.
