PSHIA Terminal 4, Checkpoint A, B, C - Phoenix, Arizona
Checkpoint A
Re-design to all six checkpoints in the 3 Terminals in response to security upgrades after 9/11. Checkpoint ‘A’ was the 1st and most critical to the passenger operations at Sky Harbor, therefore having an extremely tight design and construction schedule. To accommodate the schedule DWL worked closely with the CM@Risk to design using only standard steel shapes to span the 72’ over Sky Harbor Blvd. at the ticketing level roadway. The complex site situated the addition under the existing parking garage attached to sloping bridges and the main terminal, all at different floor elevations.

Checkpoint B
Terminal 4, Checkpoint B added 19,550 s.f. of floor space to an existing passenger bridge at Terminal 4 increasing Security Checkpoint B from 4 to 6 lanes with the capability of future growth to 9 lanes. The addition is constructed of cast in place concrete columns, steel frame structure and a concrete on metal for floor. The project spans over Sky Harbor Boulevard and the ticketing level roadway. The roadways configuration and existing overhead parking structure’s columns dictated column placement with a clear span of 74 feet. Furthermore, the structure was required to be placed between two existing bridges and the existing terminal which all are of different floor elevations. Interior finishes include tile floors, solid surface with stainless steel wall paneling systems and decorative patterned laminate glass partitions.

Checkpoint C
The 20,000 s.f. addition and 8,000 s.f. remodel of Checkpoint C, is a complete new upgrade of the existing facility with the latest TSA equipment and procedures. The new checkpoint will include an increased capacity of 4 lanes to a potential 8 lane checkpoint.

Checkpoint C’s location is elevated over Sky Harbor Blvd., under the existing parking garage, adjacent to the existing terminal, surrounded by buildings on 3 sides. Checkpoint C is the last to be upgraded of the 4 main checkpoints in Terminal 4 located at the southeast corner of the building.
